To get good video, PMP-AVC and MP4-AVC both are popular for PSP users. Personally, I prefer MP4-AVC as it is supported by the built-in player (PMP-AVC requires the PMP Player). The only time you need PMP is probably when you have subtitle in separate files. The Built-in player does not support subtitle files.

SUPER

I like SUPER. It's flexible and it has all the options to manipulate your video conversion. Not just PSP, you could use it for other video conversion tasks as well.

Best of all, is uses mencoder and ffmpeg, the well known open source video conversion tools. So you have the option to drive the video conversion using command line if you want.

For 1 thing I don't like SUPER, it's user interface may sometimes confuse you.

Conversion using SUPER

Below screens shows you the options I am using that works. I will go thru some of the options in the rest of the article.

1. Output Container - this actually doesn't matter. But if you selected this, the output will be stored in a MP_ROOT directory using the PSP conversion. I.e. you don't need to rename the files yourselve but just copy all files to your PSP and it should work directly. Remember that MP4-AVC files should be placed in directory \MP_ROOT\100ANV01\; files should be named like MAQxxxxx.MP4.

2. Output Video Codec - must be H.264/AVC

3. Select the Output Audio Codec - must be AAC

4. Video Size - 480:272 which is the native PSP screen size

5. Aspect Size - 16:9 and not need to change to 4:3 since you could change the aspect size in the player.

6. Video Bitrate - 768kbps and I haven't tried other rates

7. Auction Freq and Bitrate - 48K and 128K. It's strange PSP couldn't play the file if bitrate of 64K is used. Yahoo: mp4 Convering high quality video (MP4-AVC) for PSP MP4 Video Player
